  01 What is W3T™?  
  The W3T™ module utilises proven technology through the application of ozone (O3) and UV lighting (germicidal wavelength in water purification) and froth flotation in the treatment process. This ensures the eradication of hazardous bacteria, viruses, pathogens and contaminants from the source water by oxidation, sterilization and separation of pollutants through flotation.
  02 What is ozone?  
  Ozone (O3) or trioxygen is a molecule composed of three oxygen atoms, temporarily existing in a very unstable and reactive state. O3 is sometimes referred to as activated oxygen as compared to oxygen (O2); O3 is an extremely active molecule.
 
O3 is a very strong disinfectant and oxidiser. Any pathogen or contaminant will be disinfected, altered or remove via an oxidation process. Compared to chlorine, the most common water disinfection chemical, O3 is 14 times stronger oxidiser and acts over 3,000 times faster.
  03 WHY USE ozone?  
  O3 treatment is quite efficient and effective in achieving pollution removal, allowing people more flexibility to use water that exists where they are, or where they want to be. O3 breaks down large and long chain molecules into smaller building blocks. Smaller molecules are usually more biodegradable and less dangerous. O3 coagulates and precipitates many substances by itself, hence a reasonably effective flocculent. Furthermore, ozone is useful in water treatment systems because of its ability to disinfect without adding other chemicals which may later need to be removed or which can impart (as with Chlorine) objectionable taste and odours to the water.
  04 How is ozone created?  
  In nature, the most common and vivid production of O3 is with lightning discharges. The fresh clean aroma after lightning storm or a rain shower is O3. In the presence of O2, nearly any high energy source can and does produce O3. The two sources we relate to best are electrical energy and UV light. Any energy source powerful enough to break the firm O2 bond to form O1 can produce O3. O3 can be produced on site, via normal corona discharge, which eliminates the problems of transporting, storing and handling of hazardous and dangerous material.
  05 What is Ultraviolet (UV)?  
  Ultraviolet (UV) is a type of energy found in the electromagnetic spectrum, lying between x-rays and visible light. Although we cannot see UV light or rays, we are exposed to them every time we step out into the sun. In fact, UV light is responsible for causing sunburns. Ultraviolet systems use special lamps or bulbs that emit UV light of a particular wavelength. The Ultraviolet energy attacks the genetic core of the microorganism and rearranges the DNA /RNA eliminating the microorganism's ability to function and reproduce. If the microorganism can no longer reproduce, it cannot replicate, therefore it cannot infect other organisms with which has contact. The process is simple but effective, destroying 99.99 percent of harmful microorganisms without adding chemicals to the water.
 
The quality or appropriateness of both the UV light and of the 'contact', are crucial to accomplish disinfection. It is important to properly 'size' the UV based upon the application. It is equally important to use a good pre-filter to remove any dirt or debris that may be present in the raw water supply. This dirt and debris can interfere with the effectiveness of the UV rays – virtually giving the microorganism a shield to protect them when passing the UV rays.

  06 Advantages of UV  
  There are some very important reasons why both home owners and municipalities are choosing UV technology to treat their water.
 
Highly effective: For over 25 years, UV technology has been trusted as a safe, cost-effective way to purify water and eliminate harmful microorganisms. It is a proven EPA endorsed technology that is currently being used by thousands of cities, bottled water manufacturers and home owners around the world.
 
Chemical free:
UV provides water purification without the addition of harmful chemicals such as chlorine. It also avoids the potential of generating harmful chemical disinfection by products. Recent EPA guidelines are forcing cities across the United States to reduce or eliminate the use of chlorine for exactly this reason.
 
Taste & odour free: UV does not change the taste, odour or colour of the water.

  07 Does the W3T™ use membranes and chemicals?  
  No. The W3T™ does not use chemicals nor does it require specialist membranes that require replacement and/or chemical cleaning. The technology thus reduces fresh/potable water consumption, reduces effluent discharged to the environment by using a chemically neutral system. More has been explained in Section 3.   08 What is the power consumption?  
  The installed power consumption of each W3T™ module is 10kWh. This low power demand can be supplied from either permanent or temporary electricity supply sources makes the W3T™ ideal for use in remote areas or situations where regular power supply has been disrupted.
  09 Can the W3T™ run on Solar Energy?  
  Initial investigations have been carried out and it is possible to operate a W3T using solar energy – however the number of solar panels required with the current technologies available in the market really makes this un-realistic at this time. We will continue to research this area as new developments in solar panels are released.
  10 How much water can the W3T™ system treat?  
  The W3T™ module is a self-contained package module that is capable of processing between 100m3 to 1000m3 of water per day. The small footprint of the standard module (17ft x 40ft x 8ft) together with its control system is readily installed within standard shipping containers. This ensures that the module is easily portable and is readily installed, either as a standalone module or as an integrated component within a client’s existing waste water treatment system. The variance in volume of the processed waste is directly correlated to the characteristics and composition of the contaminants in the source water; i.e. the more complex the contaminants the longer the residence time within the system.
  11 Is the W3T™ available for rent?  
  Yes, the W3T™ can be provided on a rental basis over a term or it could be provided on a capital purchase depending on the application and location.
